Alpine Ductless was among many of the local businesses showcased at the recent Green Forum, sponsored by the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce. The Green Forum was designed to recognize the efforts of businesses who are actively reducing, in some fashion, their impact on our planet. These businesses, large and small, save energy and water and reduce waste. As a result of their conservation efforts, they also save money.
What makes Alpine Ductless ‘green’? We are an online business. Most of us work from home (in our comfy clothes) and communicate by e-mail or phone. We recycle job waste such as cardboard, metal and Styrofoam; and of course, we install ductless heating and cooling systems that are energy efficient. Ductless heat pumps require less energy to operate and eliminate the reliance on carbon-based fuels. Ductless systems also clean a significant amount of indoor air so everyone can breathe easier!
Among the many great businesses honored at the forum there was a distillery that used locally-sourced plants to make spirits (the gin was zesty!) and a law office that has reduced the amount of paper they consume…hello, a law office that does not generate reams of paper?! There was information on recycling for businesses and on ways to take advantage of rebates and grants to install energy-efficient products.
So many businesses in our community willingly do their part to make this a better place. And they’re supported by consumers who actively search for businesses engaged in ‘green’ practices. At the forum, we were treated to a small verse of Kermit’s famous song, “It’s Not Easy Bein’ Green”, and it’s true that it takes extra effort to find a way to conduct business in a way that is environmentally responsible, and good for people. These businesses are going the extra mile, but are finding the benefits worth the effort. Thank you to the Chamber for recognizing them!
